Narrated by   Ibn `Abbas:
The Prophet (ﷺ) once stayed for nineteen days and prayed shortened prayers. So when we travel led (and stayed) for nineteen days, we used to shorten the prayer but if we traveled (and stayed) for a longer period we used to offer the full prayer.

نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ( مکہ میں فتح مکہ کے موقع پر ) انیس دن ٹھہرے اور برابر قصر کرتے رہے ۔ اس لیے انیس دن کے سفر میں ہم بھی قصر کرتے رہتے ہیں اور اس سے اگر زیادہ ہو جائے تو پوری نماز پڑھتے ہیں ۔

 I heard Anas saying, “We traveled with the Prophet (ﷺ) from Medina to Mecca and offered two rak`at (for every prayer) till we returned to Medina.” I said, “Did you stay for a while in Mecca?” He replied, “We stayed in Mecca for ten days.”

ہم مکہ کے ارادہ سے مدینہ سے نکلے تو برابر نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم دو ، دو رکعت پڑھتے رہے ۔ یہاں تک کہ ہم مدینہ واپس آئے ۔ میں نے پوچھا کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا مکہ میں کچھ دن قیام بھی رہا تھا ؟ تو اس کا جواب انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے یہ دیا کہ دس دن تک ہم وہاں ٹھہرے تھے ۔

I offered the prayer with the Prophet, Abu Bakr and `Umar at Mina and it was of two rak`at. `Uthman in the early days of his caliphate did the same, but later on he started praying the full prayer.

میں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ابوبکر اور عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کے ساتھ منیٰ میں دو رکعت ( یعنی چار رکعت والی نمازوں میں ) قصر پڑھی ۔ عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ بھی ان کے دور خلافت کے شروع میں دو ہی رکعت پڑھی تھیں ۔ لیکن بعد میں آپ رضی اللہ عنہ نے پوری پڑھی تھیں ۔

We offered a four rak`at prayer at Mina behind Ibn `Affan . `Abdullah bin Mas`ud was informed about it. He said sadly, “Truly to Allah we belong and truly to Him we shall return.” And added, “I prayed two rak`at with Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) at Mina and similarly with Abu Bakr and with `Umar (during their caliphates).” He further said, “May I be lucky enough to have two of the four rak`at accepted (by Allah).”

 `Imran bin Husain had piles. Once Abu Ma mar narrated from `Imran bin Husain had said, “I asked the Prophet (p.b.u.h) about the prayer of a person while sitting. He said, ‘It is better for one to pray standing; and whoever prays sitting gets half the reward of that who prays while standing; and whoever prays while Lying gets half the reward of that who prays while sitting.’ ”

میں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھنے کے بارے میں پوچھا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھنا افضل ہے لیکن اگر کوئی بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھے تو کھڑے ہو کر پڑھنے والے سے اسے آدھا ثواب ملے گا اور لیٹ کر پڑھنے والے کو بیٹھ کر پڑھنے والے سے آدھا ثواب ملے گا ۔ ابوعبداللہ ( حضرت امام بخاری رحمہ اللہ ) فرماتے ہیں کہ حدیث کے الفاظ میں «نائم» «مضطجع» کے معنی میں ہے یعنی لیٹ کر نماز پڑھنے والا ۔

مجھے بواسیر کا مرض تھا ۔ اس لیے میں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے نماز کے بارے میں دریافت کیا ۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھا کرو اگر اس کی بھی طاقت نہ ہو تو بیٹھ کر اور اگر اس کی بھی نہ ہو تو پہلو کے بل لیٹ کر پڑھ لو ۔

  (the mother of the faithful believers) I never saw Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) offering the night prayer while sitting except in his old age and then he used to recite while sitting and whenever he wanted to bow he would get up and recite thirty or forty verses (while standing) and then bow.

آپ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو کبھی بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھتے نہیں دیکھا البتہ جب آپ ضعیف ہو گئے تو قرآت قرآن نماز میں بیٹھ کر کرتے تھے ، پھر جب رکوع کا وقت آتا تو کھڑے ہو جاتے اور پھر تقریباً تیس یا چالیس آیتیں پڑھ کر رکوع کرتے ۔

 (the mother of the faithful believers) Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) (in his last days) used to pray sitting. He would recite while sitting, and when thirty or forty verses remained from the recitation he would get up and recite them while standing and then he would bow and prostrate. He used to do the same in the second rak`a. After finishing the Prayer he used to look at me and if I was awake he would talk to me and if I was asleep, he would lie down.

رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تہجد کی نماز بیٹھ کر پڑھنا چاہتے تو قرآت بیٹھ کر کرتے ۔ جب تقریباً تیس چالیس آیتیں پڑھنی باقی رہ جاتیں تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم انہیں کھڑے ہو کر پڑھتے ۔ پھر رکوع اور سجدہ کرتے پھر دوسری رکعت میں بھی اسی طرح کرتے ۔ نماز سے فارغ ہونے پر دیکھتے کہ میں جاگ رہی ہوں تو مجھ سے باتیں کرتے لیکن اگر میں سوتی ہوتی تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم بھی لیٹ جاتے ۔

Yahya bin ‘Is-haq (Razi Allahu Anhu) se riwaayat hae ke :
Maen ne Anas (Razi Allahu Anhu) ko keh’te hu’we sunaa hae ke “Hum Huzoor (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) ke saath Madina se Makaah safar kar ra’he the toh hum logou’n ne (har namaz ke li’ye) doh doh rak’aten hee parhteen, jab tak ke hum Madinah waapas naheen aa ga’ye. Maen ne poochhaa “Kyaa aap logou’n ne Makkah mein kaafee din takk qayaam ki’yaa?” Un’hon ne jawaab diyaa ke “Hum Makkah mein duss (10) dinn tak ru’ke the”.

1082:

`Abdullah bin `Umar (Razi Allahu Anhu) se riwaayah hae ke:
Maen ne Huzoor (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam), Hazrat Abu Bakr (Razi Allahu Anhu) aur Hazrath ‘Umar (Razi Allahu Anhu) ke saa’th Minaa mein namaaz adaa kee joh doh raka’t par mab’nee thee. Hazrath ‘Uthman (Razi Allahu Anhu) ne apne ibtedaa’ye (khilaafat ke) dinnon mein bhee yeh hee ki’yaa thaa lekin ba’ad mein unhon ne pooree namaaz parhnaa shuru; kar’dee thee”.
1083:
Hazrath Haritha bin Wahab (Razi Allahu Anha) se riwaayat hae ke:
Huzoor (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) ne Minaa mein aman ke da’or (yaa haa’laat) mein humen doh raka’t namaaz padhaayee thee”.

1084:

‘Abdur Rahman bin Yazid (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwaayat hae ke:
Hum ne Mina mein Ibn ‘Affan (Radi Allahu Anhu) ke peechhe chaar (4) rak’at namaz padhayee. (Lekin) jab iss kaa zikr Abdullah bin Mas’ud (Radi Allahu Anhu)
se ki’yaa ga’yaa toh un’hon ne af’sos zaahir kar’te hu’we kahaa ke “Iss mein ko’yee shak naheen hae ke Hum Allah
(Subhana Wa Ta’ala) hee ke haen aur Unn hee kee taraf laot karr jaa’enge”. Phir keh’ne la’ge ke “Maen ne Nabi e Kareem (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam)
ke saathh Mina mein doh rak’at namaaz padhee hae aor Abu bakr Siddique (Radi Allahu Anhu) aor Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) ke saath bhee (unn ke zamaana-e-khilaa’fat mein) doh rak’at namaz padhee thee. Unhon ne yeh bhee kah’aa ke “Meree yeh kush naseebee ho’gee ke Allah (Subhaana wa Ta’alaa) inn chaar (4) rakat’on mein se doh raka’tein qabool kar len”.
1085:
Ibn Abbas (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwaayat hae ke:
Nabe e Kareem (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) sahaa’bah ke Dhul-Hijja kee chao’thee (4th) tareekh ko Hajj kee ni’yat se (Makkah mein) talbi’yaa kaa wi’rd kar’te hu’we pahoon’che (Yaa Allah hum Aap ke hukm kee ta’ameel kar’te haen, hum Aap ke bulaa’we par haazir haen). Phir Aap (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) ne apne sahaab’iyon ko hukm di’yaa ke jinn ke paas qurbaani (kaa jaanwar) naheen hae, woh Hajj ke bajaa’e Umrah kee ni;yat se ehraam pahen lein.
1086:
‘Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwaayat hae ke:
Nabi e Kareem (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaayaa ke “Kisee aurat ko teen (3) dinn se ziyaa’daa kaa safar kisee Dhi-Mahrem  ke beghair naheen kar’naa chaahi’ye,  Dhi-Mahrem (ya’ane koyee aes’aa shakhs jiss’ke saa’th wo Shaadi naheen kar saktee hae; mas’alann Bhaai, Waalid, Daa’da ya Naa’na waghairah) yaa phirr uss’ka Shohar”.
1087:
‘Ibn ‘Umar (Razi Allahu Anhu) se riwaayat hae ke:
Huzoor (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) ne farmayaa ” Ekk Aurat ko teen dinn se zaa’ed kaa safar kisee dhi-mehrim ke binaa nahee’n kar’naa chaahi’ye”

Abu Huraira (Razi Allahu Anhu) se riwaayath hae ke :
Huzoor (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) ne farmayaa ke “Kisee khaa’toon ke li’ye – – joh Allah (Subhana Wa Ta’ala) aor Aakhirat parr eemaan rakhe hae – – , jaa’ez nahee’n hae ke ekk dinn aor raat binaa (yaa beghair) kisee Mahrem ke safar ka’re”
1089:
Anas bin Malik (Razi Allahu Anhu) se riwaayat hae ke:
Maen ne Huzoor (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) ke saa’th Madina mein Zohr kee chaar Raka’t namaaz parhee thee aor Dul-Hulaifa mein doh Raka’t (Asr kee namaaz kas’r kar ke) parhee thee”.

Hazrat Aisha (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwaayat hae ke:
Namaaz jab pehle farz kee ga’yee toh woh doh rak’aton par mushtamil thee. Ba’ad mein safar kee namaaz issee tarah jaa’ree rakhhee ga’yee lekin jo loag safar mein naheen ho’te, unn ke li’ye namaaz puree (4 rak’at) kar dee ga yee. Az-Zuhri (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne bayaan ki’yaa ke “maen ne ‘Urwa (Radi Allahu Anhu)
se poochhaa ke

khwaah uss’kaa moonh kisee taraf bhee ho’ “.

naf’l namaazein sawaaree par hee parh’te the,

Hafs bin ‘Asim se riwaayat hae kae:
Ibn ‘Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) ek safar par ga’ye aor farmaayaa “Maen Nabi e Kareem (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) kee soh’bat mein rahaa hu’n aor maen ne App (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) ko Safar mein kabhee sunnat namaazen parhte naheen dekhaa aor Allah (Subhana Wa Ta’ala) farmaa’te haen ke “Yaqeenan! Tumhaare li’ye Rasool Allah (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) (kee zindagi) paira’wee kar’ne ke Ii’ye behtareen namu’na hae” (33.21)
1102:
Ibn ‘Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwaayat hae ke:
Maen Rasool Allah (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) kee soh’bat mein ra’haa hu’n. Aap
(Sallalaahu Alaehi
Wasallam)
ne safar mein doh se ziyaadaa rak’aten kabhee naheen parheen. Abu Bakr
(Radi Allahu
Anhu)
, ‘Umar
(Radi Allahu Anhu)
aor ‘Uthman
(Radi Allahu Anhu)
bhee aesaa hee kar’te the.

1103:

Ibn Abu Laila (Razi Allahu Anhu) se riwaayat hae ke:
Sirf Um Hani (Razi Allahu Anhu) ne humein bataa’yaa ke unhon ne Huzoor (Sallalaahu Alaehi
Wasallam) ko Duha namaz (Chaasht kee namaz nafl- Ya’ane qabl dopahar) parhte dekhaa. Un’hone farmaayaa ke “Fata’h Makkah ke dinn Huzoor (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) ne mere ghar ghusl ki’yaa thaa aor uss’ke ba’ad aathh (8) Rakaa’tein parheen. Maen ne Aap (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) ko kabhee itnee halkee namaaz parhte naheen dekhaa, al’batta Aap (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) ne ruku’ aur sajdah pooree (yaa kaamil) tarah se ki’yaa”.

1104:

‘Abdullah bin Amir
(Razi Allahu Anhu)
ne farmayaa ke:
“Unn’ke Waalid ne unn se kah’aa ke unn’hon ne Huzoor
(Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam)
safar ke
dau’raan ko raat ke waqt nawaa’fil namaazein sawaaree kee peethh par parh’te dekhhaa thaa,
chaa’he unn kaa rukh uss waqt kisee bhee taraf ho”.
1105:
Salim bin ‘Abdullah
(Razi Allahu Anhu)
se riwaayat hae ke:
Ibn ‘Umar
(Razi Allahu Anhu)
ne farmayaa ke “Huzoor
(Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam)
apnee oont’nee kee
peethh parr nawaafil namaazein ishaa’ro’n se parhte the, khwaah uss
(oont’nee )

kisee bhee taraf ho. Ibn ‘Umar bhee isee taraah kiy’aa kar’te the”.

ke Waalid se riwaayat hae ke:

ko jabb safar mein jaldee mein ho’te thee, toh woh Maghrib aor
`Isha’ kee namaazein ekk saa’th milaa’kar parhte the.
1107:

(Razi Allahu Anhu)
se riwaayat hae ke:
Huzoor
(Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam)
safar mein Zuhr aur Asar kee Namaazein ekk saa’th
milaa’kar parhte the;

ne farmayaa ke:
Huzoor
(Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam)
Safar mein Maghrib aur ‘Isha’ kee Namaazein ekk
saa’th milaa’kar parhte the”.
1108:
Anas

se riwaayat hae ke :
Huzoor
(Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam)
Safar ke dau’raan ye doh Namaazein ekk saa’th parhte the
ya’ane Maghrib aur ‘Isha’ kee Namaazein”.

Az Zuhri
(Razi Allahu Anhu)
se riwaayath hae ke :
Salim
(Razi Allahu Anhu)
ne mujhe bataa’yaa ke “Abdullah bin ‘Umar
(Radi Allahu Anhu)
ne kahaa ke
‘unhon ne hame’shaa Rasool Allah
(Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam)
ko safar mein jaldee kee wajah se
maghreb kee namaaz parhen mein der kart’te dekhh’aa aor Aap
(Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam)
ne iss
namaz (Maghreb) ko ‘Isha ke saa’th parh’te”.
Salim
(Razi Allahu Anhu)
ne bayaan ki’yaa ke “Abdullah bin ‘Umar
(Radi Allahu Anhu)
ko bhee jab
safar mein jaldee ho’tee thee toh woh bhee issee tarah kar’te the.
Pehle Maghrib kee namaz kaa iqaama (takbeer) kah’te, phir 3 raka’ten parh kar tasleem kar’te
(salaam phher’te)
. Phit thor’ee der ke waq’fe ke ba’ad ‘Isha kee takbeer kah’te aor doh (2)
rak’atein padh kar salaam phher’dete.
Inn dono namaazon ke darmi’yaan woh kabhee bhee sunnat yaa nawaafil naheen padh’te the
jab tak ke aadhee raat naa ho jaa’tee, tab woh uthtae (Tahhajjud namaz parh’ne ke li’ye).
Volume 2, Book 18, Number  1109:
Narrated by Az-Zuhri:
Salim told me, “`Abdullah bin `Umar said, ‘I saw Allah’s Messenger (
) delaying the Maghrib prayer till he offered it
along with the `Isha prayer whenever he was in a hurry during the journey.’ ” Salim said, “Abdullah bin `Umar used to
do the same whenever he was in a hurry during the journey. After making the call for Iqama, for the Maghrib prayer
he used to offer three rak`at and then perform Taslim. After waiting for a short while, he would pronounce the Iqama
for the `Isha’ prayer and offer two rak`at and perform Taslim. He never prayed any Nawafil in between the two prayers
or after the `Isha’ prayers till he got up in the middle of the night (for Tahajjud prayer).”

Anas bin Malik

se riwaayat hae ke:
Jab kabhee Huzoor
(Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam)
do-paher (noon) se pehle safar shuru’ kar’te, toh
Zuhr kee namaaz parh’ne mein itnee taa’kheez kar’te ke Asr kee namaz kaa waqt ho jaa’taa
thaa aor phir dono namazon ko ek sathh parh le’te the.
Aor agar suraj dhal’naa shuru’ ho’taa (ya’nee do-paher ke ba’ad) toh pehle Zuhr kee namaz
padh le’te aor phir sawaari par baithh’te (safar par rawaanaa ho’ne ke li’ye).
Volume 2, Book 18, Number 1110 :
Narrated by  Anas bin Malik:
Whenever the Prophet (
) started a journey before noon, he used to delay the Zuhr prayer till the time of `Asr and
then offer them together; and if the sun declined (at noon) he used to offer the Zuhr prayer and then ride (for the
journey).

1113:

Hazrat Aaisha
(Radi Allahu Anha)
se riwaayat hae ke:
Nabi e Kareem
(Sallalaahu Alaihi Wasallam)
ne bee’maree ke haal’at mein apne gharr mein baith’h
kar namaz parhee toh loag Aap
(Sallalaahu Alaihi Wasallam)
ke peechche namaz parhne ke li’ye
khade ho ga’ye; Aap
(Sallalaahu Alaihi Wasallam)
ne unn logou’n ko ishaa’re se baithh’kar (namaz
parhne) ko ka’haa. Namaaz se faarigh ho’ne k’ae ba’ad Aap
(Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam)
ne
farmaayaa ke “Imam kee paer’wee kar’nee chaa’hiye. Toh jab woh ruku’ ka’re toh tum bhee
ruku’ ka’ro aor jab woh sar uthhaa’ye toh tum bhee ae’se hee ka’ro”.
Volume 2, Book 18, Number 1113 :
Narrated by `Aisha
 Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) prayed in his house while sitting during his illness and the people prayed

behind him standing and he pointed to them to sit down. When he had finished the prayer, he
said, “The Imam is to be followed and so when he bows you should bow; and when he lifts his
head you should also do the same.”

1114:

Anas bin Malik (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwaayat hae ke:
Nabi e Kareem (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) ghode (horse) se girr ga’ye aor iss’kee wajah sae Aap (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) kaa daa’yaan pehlu yaa zakhmee ho ga’yaa yaa phir uss par kharaash aa ga’yee thee. Toh hum unn kee mizaaj pur’see ke li’ye ga’ye.
Namaaz ka waqt ho ga’yaa thaa, Aap (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) ne baith kar namaaz parha’ee.
Hum ne bhee baithh kar Aap (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam) ke peechche namaaz parhee. Aap (Sallalaahu Alaehi Wasallam ) ne farmaayaa ke “Imam kee paer’wee ksr’nee chaahi’ye; toh woh jab
takbeer ka’he toh tumhein bhee takbeer kah’nee chaahi’ye, aor jab woh ruku’ ka’re toh tum
bhee ruku’ ka’ro, Jab woh sar uthhaa’ye toh tum bhee ae’se hee ka’ro, aor jab woh <Sami-
Allahu liman hamidah> kahe toh tum <Rabbanaa wa lakal hamd> ka’ho. (Aye hamaa’re Rabb
Tamaam taa’reefein Aap hee ke li’ye haen).
